Globe studio show

I regret to inform all of you that I have decided to withdraw from the Globe Studios Art show this coming weekend. I realized that I did not have enough quality artwork for the show. I need to build up an inventory of work before I can participate in any other art shows. I am ashamed of my poor time management skills, but I felt it was better to be honest with myself, the Globe Studios, and to accept my failure. Submitting a few sub par pieces would not have been good.  My goal is to never have to back out of an art show again.

I have been having a lot of trouble keeping commitments for the past year. My energy levels have just been so low. It is 2:05 pm and I am writing this post from my bed for goodness sakes. Not cool. I know what is causing the lack of energy, I am just not comfortable talking about it. What I can tell you is that the next step is to learn to cope with it. But for now, I need to deal with this privately and not dwell on it.

am also thinking of raising the prices of my pieces. Although it feels amazing to sell so much art, I cannot keep up the supply to meet the demands. My current style of realism and detail takes much more time than my paintings ever did. On top of that, my expectations of myself have also grown.  I feel that my work is of better quality than it was before. So taking all of these factors into consideration, I must raise my prices. Prices on my older work will remain the same.

View from Jacob's Landing

This piece was created mostly by burn marks from the controlled application of a wire-nib burner (with a variable temperature control). This was a great challenge and learning experience for me, but I am soooo excited with the results!

This is the view from Jacob's Landing in Hespeler Village, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. I decided to try wood burning this scene because I really needed a change in pace.  Painting just has not been able to hold my attention lately. I have realized that I am a bit of an art harlot. I just get this need to go from one medium to another. I have kinda abandoned painting and digital art for the moment.  I feel terrible. I know my paints, iPad and brushes must miss me, but I have to follow my heart. It is just who I am. I guess I need to have change when it comes to art.

Thanks for reading this and for being so patient with my less then consistent updates!

The 38th International Sketch Crawl

I would like to invite you to the 38th international Sketch Crawl! This is an all day sketching marathon that will take place on Saturday, January 19th in Uptown Waterloo.

We will meet at Angie's Kitchen in Waterloo at 10:00 am.  We can draw anything we like and Uptown Waterloo has much subject matter to offer, so we can even split up and draw what strikes our fancy. Then we will have an "end of day" meet up for a drink at 4:00 pm at  the Huether to share our stories and our carnets de voyage (no critiques just a share). You should end up with a drawn journal filled with interior and exterior sketches ranging from the drinks you had to the different buses that passed by.

To particpate, please RSVP Brenda Murray at 519-572-1757 or email her at brenda.murrayATsympaticoDOTca. If you cannot join us in the morning, but would like to come later in the afternoon, text or call Brenda, so you can find out where we are at that time.

Check out the marathon's website:  http://www.sketchcrawl.com/

Sketches

These sketches may not look like much, but they were super scary and uncomfortable for me. I did not use a pencil (WHICH MEANS NO ERASING!). Just a black pen! I tried to just make confident, bold strokes. Not sketchy strokes. It was so, so hard for me. But all things considered, I think I did well. And I am proud of myself. I am even thinking of using the second drawing for a painting. The lopsided perspective, and overall quaky architecture kinda has it's own charm.

Brenda Murray (go check out her online portfolio and give her lots of love because her art rocks) told me about a group called the Urban Sketchers. I love the idea of the Urban Sketchers and I cannot stop admiring all of the cool sketchbooks!

Thanks for reading this, keep on creating and cheers!

Bernhardt Building

This painting is for an upcoming show called "A Day and A Night" at the Cambridge Center for the arts.  I believe that this is part of the  Bernhardt building, in Preston,Cambridge, Ontario. I might come back and play with it a bit more. But for now, I am done.

Thanks for reading this and cheers!

Jacob's Landing View

This piece was a great challenge and learning experience for me. This is the Speed River Dam as seen from Jacob's Landing in Hespeler Village, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. I decided to try to paint the scene in the colours I felt, instead of the colours that were actually there. I am so proud of myself because I think that this turned out great! I hope to continue trying to experiment with colour!

Thanks for reading this and cheers!
